In February 2019, a group of volunteers visited Nepal to support the refurbishment of the school to provide an improved Early ChildhoodDevelopment (ECD) classroom, a new kitchen dining room and a safe, reliable water supply and sanitation. The group funded the improvement works and also helped with the practical delivery of it.
The existing ECD classroom being used by the school was basic and uninviting. The room was bare, with a hard-concrete floor and had limited resources and furniture for the children. It needed a lot of work to turn it into a safe, secure and welcoming environment for the youngest children at the school.
The team repainted the room to make it brighter and more engaging, new carpets were installed and a wide variety of new resources and furniture were provided. A new toilet was also constructed that was accessible from the classroom, avoiding the need for the children to go outside to use it -particularly beneficial during the monsoon season.
The total cost of the improvement works to the ECD classroom and the additional toilet was c£4,200.
Teacher, Muniraj Gurung said “The new room has provided much mores pace for the children to play and they have lots of learning materials to use now. We are also able to provide snacks to the children which is good. We have seen an increase in attendance and we are almost full which is good for the children. They can play with each other and learn many things while playing. They are improving their habit of helping each other also. I would like to thank the donors for their support because before there was a very narrow room; there weren't many things to read and play with. Now the we have a room and resources which makes the children happy and their learning becomes even more meaningful.”
