Shree Gyan Prakash S School, Dana, Myagdi
Funder – Katie Spencer and The Dana Community UK
In 2016 Pahar Trust Nepal was approached by the community in the very remote village of Dana, Myagdi located around 5 hours North West ofPokhara within the Annapurna Conservation Area only 12 miles from the highest peak in the area which dominates the view.
The community requested support to replace their existing school building which was very old, unsafe and not built to current earthquake resistance guidelines. The existing corrugated iron roof had to be weighted down with rocks and earth to prevent it from lifting off during lessons.
The existing school building was demolished and a new 8-room,2-storey building have been constructed in its place which is one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by the Trust. The new building will enable the school to deliver more lessons per day while providing improved facilities including a science lab, computer room and meeting hall. The school currently has over 320 students between the ages of 5-17yrs old but it is hoped that the new building will enable to school to increase its provision to the local community.
