Shree Himalaya Saraswati Lower Secondary School, Khading
Total projectcost: £51,500 (including a 15% community contribution)
Funder: Tamu Dhee UK
In September2016, Tamu Dhee UK approached Pahar Trust Nepal to support the construction of a new school building in the village of Khading in the East of Nepal. The school was badly damaged during the 2015 earthquake and due to its remote location had not yet received government support. Temporary Learning Centres had been provided by a small NGO set up after the earthquake but these were not suitable long term as can be seen in the images.
A new single storey, 5-room building was agreed and designed to provide a safe learning environment for the 150 students at the school. Construction started in early 2018 and is scheduled to complete in October 2018. Located 24 hours walk from the nearest road and at 2600m the village is very remote and difficult to access. Materials hat could not be sourced locally had to be carried to the village from the market by porters and mules. Despite its remote location our dedicated and skilled construction team has been able to successfully deliver the project to a very high standard.
We are very glad to have been able to support this very remote community with the support of Tamu Dhee UK. However, there are hundreds of schools also in need and we strive to continue to help these. Please help us to do this by supporting our work.
