Many schools across the UK and Nepal have enjoyed strong relationships  for many years now. Kirk Michael school in the Isle of Man has been linked with Ghamrang in West Nepal for ten years. Students in both schools continue to correspond and the friendship link is an important part of school life.

In Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, Matthew Humberstone CofE School has enjoyed an extremely active and rewarding friendship link with Namje School East Nepal for several years. Matthew Humberstone have raised funds for many projects associated with the school, as well as Namje village, additionally several current teachers and ex pupils have visited their friends in Nepal.

Nepal Week at Scoill Phurt le Moirrey

Scoill Phurt le Moirreyin the South of the Isle of Man is linked with the Pahar Trust School in Syanja Mid-West Nepal. Recently they held a Nepal week. It was an excellent example of a school using the friendship link scheme effectively.

The staff at Port St Mary School carefully planned a week that celebrated their link with Nepal, this was embraced with enthusiasm and diligence by both staff and pupils. The week included a visit from Dhan Bahadur Chand

who spoke about his life in a hill village and in the Gurkhas, Dolma Sherpa a Nepali lady who made traditional Nepali food with the children a talk from MHK Juan Watterson about his visit to Nepal and mountaineering instruction from Mr Mike Quayle who had climbed in the Everest region. In addition to this the teachers had prepared exciting lessons that included learning about Nepali culture, geography, religion, music and dance. An opportunity was also given for the staff and pupils to exchange messages via email with pupils to exchange messages via email with pupils from their link school in Nepal.
